Winchester is situated in the south of England and is the county town of Hampshire. The city is steeped in history and has many buildings such as the Cathedral, Wolvsey Castle and the Great Hall standing as monuments to ancient times gone by.
Winchester is not only an historical city. Today it is a vibrant centre for business, education and tourism. Winchester attracts 5.5 million tourists a year and has 8000 students attending both Winchester University and Winchester School of Art. It is also the home of the Winchester College which was founded in 1832. In addition to these seats of learning, the city has many primary and secondary schools in both the state and public sectors.
Winchester has a vibrant economy and is just 1 hour 15 minutes away from London by train.
There are many shops, restaurants and bars including The Royal Oak which dates back to 1002 and claims to be the first bar in England.
In 2016 Winchester was voted the best place to live in the U.K. in terms of quality of life.
